Coaching is an investment in your credibility and incredibility for work and life.

Your mind and body are part of the same system. You may exercise, eat and rest well to keep your body well, toned, strong and resilient; we suggest that coaching and mentoring are the exercise environment to support fitness, suppleness and resilience of the mind.

William James once said: “In every forest, on every farm, in every orchard on earth, it’s what’s under the ground that creates what’s above the ground. That’s why placing your attention on the fruits that you have already grown is futile. You cannot change the fruits that are already hanging on the tree. You can, however, change tomorrow’s fruits. But to do so, you will have to dig below the ground and strengthen the roots.”

A good coach believes that their client has all the resources within them to become the best that they can be (“what’s under the ground creates what’s above”). A client (who may be focused on the problems, regrets or fruits of the past), through encouragement, growth techniques and a bit of digging from the coach, begins to strengthen their own roots and create the environment to grow strong fruits for tomorrow. A good coach never advises, tells or suggests a course of action, but rather creates the climate and safety for the client to explore, make decisions and change for themselves.

“A mentor develops you from the ‘outside-in’ by bringing skills and abilities to you so that you can develop your competence; a Coach develops you ‘inside-out’ by helping you to become aware of the talents and potential you already have”
